PSA Marine and GLOBAtech: A Multi-Year Tug Fleet Protection Story

PSA Marine — one of Asia-Pacific’s most demanding tug operators — has progressively rolled out ENVSonic ultrasonic antifouling across more than 25 tugs over the past five years, spanning multiple vessel classes built at Cheoy Lee Shipyard in China.

The relationship started small. Two RAmparts 2400W tugs in 2021. Raw-water strainer, pipe, and plate exchanger protection — plus hull. The vessels performed; the operational story validated; and the specification expanded.

We are grateful to PSA Marine for the trust, the operational scale, and the continued partnership.

The deployment now spans:

  • Z-Tech 5000 Class — a fleet of harbour and escort tugs protected with ENVSonic on raw-water systems and hulls.
  • Z-Tech 6000 ASD — three additional ASD tugs added to the protected fleet.
  • Z-Tech 6000 FiFi — a firefighting-class tug protected.
  • 2800-CL Escort — escort tugs for harbour towage operations.
  • 2500-CL — multiple newbuild tugs entering the fleet under standard ENVSonic fitment.

The PSA Marine story matters for one specific reason: it’s the operating model we want to repeat across every Tier-1 tug operator in our pipeline. Start with a small pilot. Validate operational outcomes. Expand specification. Reach the point where ENVSonic becomes the standard fitment on every newbuild from a designated builder.

What we’ve learned from the deployment:

  1. Fleet-scale ultrasonic only works if installation is faster than the alternative. The ENVSonic daisy-chain architecture cuts installation time by approximately 5× compared to legacy multi-cable systems. On a yard with multiple newbuilds in flight, this is not a marginal improvement — it’s the difference between specification and rejection.
  2. Smart monitoring earns trust at the chief engineer’s level. PSA Marine’s engineering teams have access to ENVSonic operational data through our remote monitoring platform — a level of visibility that conventional ultrasonic systems simply don’t provide.
  3. Newbuild integration locks in the lifetime relationship. Each ENVSonic-protected vessel is operationally protected for the life of the asset — a long-term operational partnership rather than a transactional install.
